Trader Joe’s is my go-to spot for fresh groceries. (Whole Foods is great, but pretty much the opposite of cheap). You probably know the shop for affordable organic veggies, frozen treats and the infamous two-buck Chuck.
But if you’re skipping the cleaning and beauty product aisle, you’re missing out!
Here are eight hidden gems worth checking out next time you shop:
Note: Prices may vary according to where you live.
1. Super Amazing Kitchen Cloths
Price: $3.99 for two towels
When you name a product “Super Amazing,” you’re making a big promise. Trader Joe’s stepped up to the plate and made these absorbent towels that you can use as an alternative to paper towels. They soak up 10 times their weight in liquid and can be washed in your normal hot cycle of your washing machine. At $4 for a pack of two, they’ll quickly become a staple in your cleaning arsenal.
2. Liquid Laundry Detergent
Price: $9.99 for 128 ounce bottle
Not only does this liquid laundry detergent work, it smells awesome. The fresh scent is derived from coconut, soy, sugar, and lavender and is super sensitive on your skin. Plus, one bottle lasts for over 60 loads due to its low-suds formula!
To top it off, the detergent is free of phosphates and petro-chemical cleaning agents, with a balanced pH that’s easy on your clothes and your standard or HE washing machine. I’ve used this detergent for years and haven’t found a sensitive detergent that smells as good and is as gentle on my clothes. It even gets dog-stink out of blankets!
3. Trader Joe’s Fruit and Vegetable Wash
Price: $11 for 16 ounces
This fruit and vegetable wash is the easiest and safest way to ensure your family is eating pesticide-free. The label boasts that the non-toxic formula is proven to remove waxes, pesticides and chemicals. I use it on iffy pieces of fruit and veggies, and I love having the extra peace of mind. It’s also tasteless, so it doesn’t mess up my salads, which would be a disaster of epic porportions.
4. Trader Joe’s Next to Godliness Automatic Dishwasher Detergent Concentrated Monodose Pacs
On a scale of hard work to easy-peesy, these pods are on the easy living side. You grab, toss and start your machine – no pouring required (pre-soak is recommended on the label). While admittedly these probably won’t work if you have a stage-10 mess, they’ll do a stand-up job for your typical dish load. Plus, the ingredient list is a who’s who of green cleaning products: Vegetable and Coconut Derived Surfactants, Earth Salt, Citrus Based Water Softener, Corn Based Thickener, Vegetable Based Drying Agent, Lemon Oil, Water.
1. Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo
When you use this shampoo, you can actually feel it cleaning, thanks to a tingling sensation. Not only does it leave hair feeling smooth, silky and clean, it smells amazing. The best part? The price is a fraction of the cost of comparable big-name brands.
2. Trader Joe’s Lavender Salt Scrub
Lavender is known to be a relaxing scent, and this product is one of the most potent lavender-scented products I’ve ever tried. One whiff can send you straight into lalaland, so I recommend indulging with this body scrub before bed. The label boasts that the ingredients are so natural you can eat it. While this may give you some peace of mind, I wouldn’t recommend adding it to your lunch.
3. Trader Joe’s Jojoba Oil
At the end of a long day, taking your makeup off sounds like the last thing you want to do. Problem is, it’s important for your skin. So make the chore as pleasant as possible by using jojoba oil. The oil warms as you rub it into your face, smells great and easily removes dirt and makeup (even eye makeup!). The secret is to let the oil sit for at least 15 seconds and then rub it away using a soft, warm cloth.
4. Trader Joe’s Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion
It’s light. It’s moisturizing. And it has SPF. If you’re looking for a good plain Jane moisturizing lotion go no further than your neighborhood grocery store. This lotion is pretty much perfect for my sensitive skin, doesn’t make me breakout and is budget-friendly. Sure, it isn’t fancy and doesn’t have a scent, but with the Bermuda triangle that is beauty-product advertisements these days, it’s nice to have a basic standby.
