5 Tips to Make Your Guest Bed Uber-Comfortable

As a host, you want your guests to be as comfortable as possible – and a big part of that is where they are resting their head at night. There’s nothing worse than staying in someone’s home only to realize the blankets aren’t warm enough or your pillow feels like sleeping on a brick.

Layer on the luxury and make sure a stay in the guest bed is like sleeping on a cloud with these tips.

Focus on the Mattress

How old is the mattress in your guest bedroom? Mattresses last for about 7-10 years. Past that, they’ll stop offering the support your body needs for a good night’s sleep. If you’re not sure, sleep on it for a night and see how the old back feels in the morning. If you’re stiff, but also not able to spring for a whole new mattress, then opt for a memory foam mattress topper, which will run you about $80-$100.

Try New Sheets

This is definitely one of the easiest things you can do to make your guest bed more comfortable. Do your sheets pass the touch test, meaning do they feel comfortable to the touch? If not, brush up on your bed lingo and check out this guide to buying sheets using linen count, fabric choice and fiber type.

Don’t Neglect the Pillows

Make sure you’re stocking the guest bed with pillows that have good neck and head support. The best thing you can do is be able to give guests a choice, so have a few different types! Not sure if you need to get new pillows? Try the pillow test to see if it’s time to toss them.

Remove Bed Skirts to Reduce Dust

If your guest bed has a bed skirt or ruffle, consider removing it entirely. Anything that has pleats is a magnet for dust and dust mites. This can be especially helpful if you or anyone staying in your home suffers from allergies.

Add a Throw Blanket and Pillows

Nothing makes a bed seem more luxurious than adding a few throw pillows and extra blankets. Keep a stockpile of blankets, both heavy and light, in the closet in the bedroom so your guests have options as the weather changes.
